DUNCAN McKENZIE
Duncan McKenzie is a visual artist, writer, sailor and explorer.
His portrait and landscape work has been published in many national and international magazines such as Stern, Intelligent Life, The Financial Times, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The Observer, The Guardian, Geographical, and in various books. Winning entries for awards include the John Kobal, Schweppes and Taylor Wessing Portrait Awards, the AOP Awards, the Royal Photographic Society International Print Exhibition. His work has been widely exhibited, including The National Portrait Gallery, The Photographer's Gallery, The Royal Festival Hall, and The Royal Photographic Society.
Duncan was born in England, graduated in social anthropology and ethnographic film at UCL and SOAS, followed by a diploma in documentary photography at UOW. His background in people and human socio-cultural themes led him to find his niche photographing portraits and human interest stories for a variety of editorial and commercial clients.
In recent years he has focussed on the human existential relationship with the natural world. This interest combined with his passion for sailing led him to engage in the refit of a classic 38’ sailing ketch Czarina Blue, in which he now travels the oceans and photographs, films and writes on themes of sailing, exploring, nature, connectedness and alternative living.
